It is really hard to be patient while waiting for each batch of glass to cool!

Susan Florian says, "I have had my kiln for 3 years and would definitely buy another high-quality, made in the U.S.A. Paragon kiln in the future!"

Q. How did you get interested in acquiring a kiln?

A. I have always been fascinated by colored glass and made beaded jewelry for several years. I really wanted to give fusing a try. My daughter's art teacher had a microwave kiln and invited a friend and me to her home to make a few pieces of jewelry. It was so much fun putting different colors and shapes together and the results were so beautiful that I decided to purchase a kiln. I realized a microwave kiln was not adequate if this was going to become a serious hobby, and a large programmable kiln was definitely not within my budget. After a lot of research and getting some helpful feedback from hot glass bloggers, I narrowed my search down to the Paragon Firefly. I purchased a fusing starter kit from Rio Grande that came with everything I needed to start fusing and I've been enjoying this wonderful art form ever since.

Q. What do you enjoy most about owning a kiln?

A. The best part of owning the kiln is opening the lid after a firing to see how the glass turns out. It reminds me so much of the excitement I felt on Christmas morning as a little girl, opening presents and feeling a sense of anticipation and wonder about what was hiding within each package. It is really hard to be patient while waiting for each batch of glass to cool! It is also a fun activity to share with my nine year-old daughter, Lily!

Q. What specific features do you like most about your Paragon kiln?

A. I love that I can fire several pieces at a time, depending on size, and unlike a much larger kiln, I don't need to produce dozens of items before I can fire a batch and see the results. The seven-inch firing shelf is just right for what I do. I don't have a huge workspace, so the kiln's size works perfectly for me.

Q. Would you recommend this product? If so, why?

A. For someone who makes jewelry, this is a great kiln to work with. The customer service at Paragon is outstanding. The fact that Paragon kilns were highly recommended by other fusers was what sold me on buying this kiln. I have had my kiln for 3 years and would definitely buy another high-quality, made in the U.S.A. Paragon kiln in the future!
