Caldera-BC Bead Annealing CollarThe basic Caldera is part of a kiln expansion system. When you are ready to anneal glass beads, add the modular Caldera-BC collar. It is a kiln section that stacks onto the main Caldera kiln base. The Caldera-BC collar has a 7 ½” x 2” door on the side for annealing glass beads. The collar includes a brushed stainless steel mandrel holder. Insert the mandrels into the kiln. The bead door stays partially open while the glass anneals. The kiln ships with a rare earth magnet to hold the bead door open. The Caldera-BC collar adds 4 1/2 of height to the main kiln. The collar has no heating elements. The Collar is made of 2 ½” thick hand-selected insulating refractory firebricks. The insulating firebricks, wrapped in heavy-gauge stainless steel, soak up heat for slow, efficient cooling. To strengthen the firing chamber, the firebrick corners are fitted together with L-shaped notches. This type of joint lasts longer than the butted joint and the "picture frame" mitered joint found on competitive brands. Rugged construction makes this kiln a little workhorse. For easy maintenance, the stainless steel case includes case tighteners. The Caldera-BC is made in Mesquite, Texas USA by skilled craftspeople. Imagine the intricate glass beads you could anneal in this kiln. Also use the collar to add depth to the Caldera or Caldera-S for general glass fusing. The Caldera-BC bead collar will add to your creative enjoyment. The Caldera-BC can ship by UPS/FedEx for lower shipping cost and faster service. Specially designed cartons and foam padding assure that the kiln will arrive safely. Warning for the Caldera kiln equipped with a lid safety switch and collarThe Caldera kiln was intended to be a stackable kiln with a separate lid and bottom. However, the lid must be hinged to the Caldera body when a lid safety switch is installed. To stabilize a Caldera kiln that has a hinged lid, we attach the kiln body and kiln bottom together with two latches. If an unlatched collar (enameling, bead, or extension) is mounted between the Caldera body and the kiln bottom, care must be taken when opening the hinged lid. Do not open the lid past 90 degrees (where the lid is straight up) unless the lid leans against a heat-proof support behind the kiln. |
