These kilns are now shipping with a built-in pyrometer at no extra charge.

We have just redesigned our manual-fire E-9AX, E-10A, E-14A, and Q-11A kilns. The firing chambers remain the same size, but the switch and safety pilot light are now in the base of the kilns. Without raising the price, we also added a built-in pyrometer (temperature sensor). The earlier switch boxes that were mounted on the side have been discontinued.
“These kilns were introduced in the 1960s,” said John S. Hohenshelt, president of Paragon. “We’ve made many changes to them over the years, but this is the first major redesign of these venerable models.”
The kilns fire copper enameling, ceramics, glass, and decals. They include a vent hole with cover in the door. The front control panel is sloped.
Adjust the firing speed with the infinite control switch. It cycles on and off through a bi-metallic timer. The higher the switch setting, the longer the heating elements stay on during each cycle. When the switch is turned to High, the elements stay on continuously. (Note: The switch does not automatically hold a temperature. It requires small adjustments to maintain a temperature hold.)
The heating elements, exposed in dropped, recessed insulating firebrick grooves, are easy to replace. Unlatch and open the door with one hand. No extra stand is needed; the built-in base stays cool during operation.
The E-9AX, E-10A, and Q-11A ship by UPS within the U.S. to give you lower shipping cost and faster service. Specially designed cartons and foam padding assure that the kiln will arrive safely.
Paragon kilns are built to be dependable. They are loaded with attention to details, such as the costly nickel-plated copper wire with high temperature glass-braided insulation. Wires are fastened to the elements with heat-dissipating connectors refined and proven over many years in Paragon kilns.
If you are having difficulty choosing a large kiln, experiment with a variety of techniques in a small E-series kiln. Then choose a larger kiln later when you have a better idea of the projects you are interested in. After you buy a larger kiln, you can still use your E-series indefinitely for small projects and for testing.
“Paragon kilns just go on working forever,” said Jeff Zamek, author of “What Every Potter Should Know.” He added, “Paragon kilns have one of the lowest incidences of repair of any kiln manufactured in the U.S.”
