MESQUITE, TX—Paragon has just introduced a digital top-loading firebrick kiln called the Janus-1613. It is designed to fire both glass and pottery. It has heating elements in the top and sides.
The element in the lid uses a new element groove that eliminates element pins. The sidewall elements are seated in dropped, recessed grooves.
Choose between glass and ceramic firing with a toggle switch. In the glass position, heat comes from the top element and one sidewall element. In the ceramic position, heat comes from all six rows of sidewall elements; the lid element remains off.
The Janus-1613 uses the Sentry digital temperature controller manufactured by the Orton Ceramic Foundation for Paragon. It includes Cone-Fire and Ramp-Hold modes with up to 20 segments and memory for four programs. The controller includes a programmed Cone-Fire cool-down for experimenting with glazes and cooling rates.
The Paragon Janus-1613 is rated to 2350°F (cone 10). The 8-sided, 1.75 cubic foot interior is 16 1/2” wide and 13 1/4” deep.
