“Glass is unlike any other medium I’ve ever worked with,” said Jill Tanenbaum of Bethesda, Maryland. “I love the range of colors, the transparency, the way glass changes color based on light and shadow, and the variety of techniques that can be produced in glass. “I received my inspiration partly from growing up in a house filled with art, partly from travel, partly from going to hundreds of crafts and fine arts shows over the years, and partly from fashion. “I enjoy creating functional pieces like plates, platters and bowls," added Jill, “and I enjoy designing sculptural pieces and combining several techniques like screen printing, transfers, powder paints and glass.” Jill owns a Paragon GL-24ADTSD. “I named my Paragon kiln Butler,” Jill said. “I love Butler. He fires perfectly every time. I love the digital set up and I love the embedded coils in the ceiling--so worth the extra cost! Of course, I take care of Butler, too. I keep him clean, and he gets to listen to fantastic music whenever I am in my studio working.” How did Jill get started in glass? “I started collecting glass at the ACC show and love it so much I looked into classes locally near where I live.” Jill Tanenbaum is president of Jill Tanenbaum Graphic Design & Advertising Inc. and owns Creative Glass Design.
