MESQUITE, TX – Paragon Industries held a contest for the most creative or entertaining videos about Paragon kilns. The contest ended August 31, 2010. The contest winners:
First place ceramic video: Linda Lee won a Paragon Caldera XL glaze testing kiln.
First place warm glass video: Dolores Barrett won a Paragon Fusion-16 glass fusing kiln.
First place jewelry video: Lisa Mall won a Paragon SC-2 jewelry kiln.
In addition, Paragon gave out three $250 gift certificates to second place winners and three $100 gift certificates to third place winners.
Linda Lee’s video starts out with a youthful, exuberant Linda unloading a Paragon ceramic kiln in 1974. She tells an interesting anecdote about student ware and shows some of her ceramics. The video ends with Linda of today, 36 years later, unloading another Paragon kiln and enjoying ceramics as much as ever.
Dolores Barrett’s video tells the story of her early china painting career. Her first kiln was a Paragon X-14J, which she has used to fire her warm glass. The video shows how Dolores fires glass in her the switch-operated kiln. Dolores still owns her faithful Paragon X-14J.
Lisa Mall’s video demonstrates the basic steps to casting jewelry with the lost wax method. She shapes the form out of wax, adds sprues, mixes and pours the investment to form a mold, fires the mold in a Paragon FireFly kiln, and casts the jewelry.
When Linda Lee heard that she won the contest, she said, “I had a lot of fun making the video, and I do love my Paragon kiln. I look forward to using the Caldera XL!”
Dolores Barrett said, “Woo-hoo! Now I'll finally get to fire with a real controller! Thank you, THANK YOU. I am beyond elated.”
Lisa Mall said, “Thanks so much! I'm excited!”
After receiving her prize kiln, Dolores Barrett wrote, “The Fusion-16 was delivered this morning from the freight carrier and I am just elated. What a gorgeous kiln! The firing chamber is so generous it's going to make fusing my glass work even more of a joy. Now I'm looking forward to using the Sentry controller and finally finding out mysteries of firing schedules all my glass friends have been talking about. THANK YOU for sponsoring the video contest and awarding me this wonderful kiln! My X-14J was my first love, but now I have another new love also. To quote my own video: 'I suspect that my kiln[s] and I will be together for a very long time!'"
